Who are Nouns Esports?

As an avid web3 enthusiast outside of my time focussing on esports, the introduction of Nouns into the esports space was an extremely welcome, if not slightly surprising, addition to tier 1 esports lineups. But who are these red spectacle wielding “Nouns” and where did they come from?

As a bit of history, Nouns started nearly 2 years ago and they release a new Noun NFT each day for a public auction. All proceeds earned from these sales go into the Nouns Treasury and proposals on how to spend these funds can be proposed by holders. At the time of writing, this Treasury value stands at just under a staggering $55 million. Each Noun NFT held allows for one vote (for or against), and at proposal 68, Nouns Esports was born.

Nouns Esports has strategically positioned itself in multiple popular esports titles, engaging in thrilling competitions across different genres. They have targeted tier 1 esports titles and always set their sights on competing in tournaments with wide-spread exposure. With a good eye for roster acquisition Nouns Esports first entered the Dota 2 scene, picking up 4 Zoomers, and targeting a place at the 2022 International tournament. Unfortunately they came second in the The International 2022: North America Qualifier after placing losing against Soniqs in the finals. The team is still competing though.

After the success of the Dota 2 roster, the Nouns collective have expanded into Pokémon Unite during its hype, supported Smash: Melee player Aklo and onboard him as a Nouns ambassador, and expanded into the professional CS:GO scene. The CS:GO roster picked up in September 2022 was formerly competing as Squirtle Squad and since representing Nouns have placed highly in a number of tournaments and most notably competing in the Intel Extreme Masters Dallas 2023. Coming into 2o23, there are high ambitions for competing at the ESL Pro League and Intel Extreme Masters.

Coming into 2023, Nouns Esports have allocated additional funds to their CS:GO and Dota 2 roster to maintain, nurture and expand the existing team rosters. There are a multitude of tournaments they have qualified for and we’re excited to see their teams expanding.
